Family putting on a feast for F.A.C.T.

Hands stretched out in aid to others who are suffering illustrate the help that has been extended through one local agency's volunteers. The fund that have eased the burden for area families facing cancer treatment has received a boost since 2005, when the Vogel family has donated the proceeds of their annual Harvest of Hope dinner to Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment. This year's “all you can eat" feast is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Seneca County Fairgrounds. The Vogels are prepared to feed hundreds with a combination of hobo stew, sandwiches, side dishes and a smorgasbord of desserts. Area supporters can purchase tickets at Rock Run Bulk Foods and Services Inc. in Tiffin or at the door. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children 6-12 years of age, and free for children 5 and under.

Ask the Editor Part 37

Can you tell me the exact date the levied assessment will take effect? I assumed it was for the year 2008. No one seems to be able to give me an answer. Is it the year 2007? I called the MWCD yesterday and the person on the phone could give me no information except to say it goes into effect soon since it was approved recently.

Woman with cancer forming non-profit to fight back

Just as the Pap smear nearly wiped out cervical cancer, we hope this test will do the same for breast cancer." In addition to working on getting SOMAD running and undergoing chemotherapy, George has continued to work from home. She is a member of "Active Rain," a cyber community of real estate professionals from all over the country. "I worked and I still work all through my treatments. I find that working helps to divert my attention from the ominous pressure I'm under from the cancer," she said. "It keeps my mind focused on other things." Her posts on the Active Rain blog about her cancer fight caught the eye of Paula Henry, a Realtor from Indianapolis, as well as Phoenix Realtor Jay Thompson. Henry said she was so moved by George's story that she opened a bank account so others could help George with medical bills, which she said are more than $200,000.

She's making her healthy dreams reality

Images of hope, happiness and serenity fill Sigrid Tidmore's "Dreams of Flight" calendar. Inspirational words about flying and dreaming accompany the 12 water-colored works of Tidmore, who may be better known as the executive director of the Patel Foundation for Global Understanding.

The only limit to your garden is at the boundaries of your imagination. There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it will be a butterfly.

Buckminster Fuller's words perfectly articulate Tidmore's makeup. Her imagination and drive know no bounds. Tell her about a dream or aspiration and she quickly crafts a plan of attack. She challenges you to ask, "Why not?" instead of "Why?" And she applies the same standard to her pursuits.

In less than a year, she has helped steer Healthy Together, the foundation's ambitious community health initiative, from concept to reality.

All of which is probably just a bit too stellar. it was never likely to equal the sum of its parts. In the event, it adds up to considerably less. Michael Caine is mega successful crime writer Andrew Wyke. Jude Law is the out-of-work actor Milo Tindle who is having an affair with his wife. Tindle turns up on Wyke's doorstep hoping to force him into agreeing to a divorce. But Tindle gets more than he bargained for when Wyke offers him a pay-off involving a staged burglary. Wyke turns the screw to near-deadly effect; Tindle's response is to do the same. And so it goes on. And on. To ever less impact. If you want to see a film which really does offer genuine, sexual, cat-and-mouse thrills while managing to be both chilling and gripping, dig out Hard Candy - a film which does brilliantly all that Sleuth tries and fails to do.
